Welcome to the MFAH Archives

In December of 2003, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, received funding from the Wallace Foundation to embark upon an ambitious and multifaceted program, Gateway to Art/De Puertas al Arte, designed to broaden, deepen, and disseminate new knowledge about Latin American art among adult audiences. Utilizing the MFAH's established standing as a center of cultural dialogue and learning, this program analyzes the relationship between the art of the United States and that of Latin America.

As a part of this program, the MFAH archival record invites a discussion about the relationship of Latin American art to both modernism and regional aesthetics. Exhibition records attest to the pervasiveness of Latin American modernism in the museum's exhibition history as well as in private Houston collections since the early decades of the twentieth century.
